Seneca Falls, New York—

Robert G. Wayne, 64, of Lower Lake Road, died peacefully in his home after a long & courageous battle with cancer. His loving family was by his side. Bob was a devoted son, loyal brother, faithful husband, proud father, cherished grandfather, always a first responder & firefighter, dedicated community supporter and selfless friend & neighbor.

Robert was born September 15, 1955, son of Mary & William Wayne of Seneca Falls, NY. He graduated from Mynderse Academy & from Cayuga Community College. He was employed as a teen at the Morehouse Boat Company, after college he worked at the Seneca County Sheriff’s Department and the Willard Psychiatric Center. When Willard closed he transferred to the New York State Department of Corrections where he retired in 2013. He proudly served as a Volunteer Fireman for 49 years at the Red Jacket Fire Department which later merged with the Seneca Falls Fire Department. He loved living on Cayuga Lake but his lifelong passion was taking care of people...his family and his friends.

I worked at Five Points while he worked as a corrections officer there. He was always a very kind person, and would always come into our office with a smile on his face. I am sorry for your loss. The world has lost a great man.

Bob may have entered this world as “two of a kind,” but there is no doubt that he left it as “one of a kind.” Bob will forever be a part of our lake memories, and we will think of him often as the smiles come to our lips while we fondly remember the larger than life character that he was. Rest in peace Bob Wayne, you have earned it!

Some of my fondest memories will be our many card playing games, especially those played at “Toad Hall”. Bob was and always will be one of the most selfless, strongest and inspirational people I have had the pleasure of knowing. He beat cancer once, however was unable to do it a second time after giving it all the fight he had and then some. You’re at peace now as your pain and suffering have ended. Thank you for the honor and privilege of having a brother-in-law to love and call family.
With love, your sister-in-law Nancy

I was so sorry to hear about Bob this morning. I have known the Wayne family forever. Bob and Bill ran track and field their freshmen year and both showed great potential. Unfortunately it was only one year as basketball became a huge sport for the both. I've had contact with them both as sport team drivers for Mynderse and HWS. This is a shame as Bob had much more to do and will be missed but remember all the good times.
