Seneca Falls - Albert J. Cappello, 92, of Bridge St., Seneca Falls, NY, passed away on Friday (January 27, 2017) at Huntington Living Center, Waterloo, NY. Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, NY on Tuesday (January 31) from 4 to 7 PM. Albert's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday (February 1) at 10 AM at St. Patrick's Church, Seneca Falls, with Reverend James Fennessy, Pastor, as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls. If desired, contributions may be made to St. Francis/St. Clare Parish, 25 Center St., Waterloo, NY 13165 The Seneca Falls Honor Guard will conduct military honors at the funeral on Tuesday evening (January 31) at 7 PM. Albert was born in Seneca Falls, NY on June 18, 1924 the son of the late Carlo & Rose Marrapese Cappello. He was a life resident of Seneca Falls and served in the U.S. Navy during World War II, enlisting in January 1943 until his discharge in February 1946. He served both theaters of operation, the Atlantic and the Pacific. He saw action in the Bay of Biscay, the invasion of Normandy, D-Day and was torpedoed in the English Channel where he was wounded and thus earned the Purple Heart. He had served on the SS Steel Mariner, the USS LST 280 & the USS LSM 477. When wounded, Albert never left his post until a corpsman came and ordered him to sick bay. Albert was retired from Gould's Pumps of Seneca Falls with 42 year of service. He loved music, especially music by Frank Sinatra and Lawrence Welk. He loved to dance and the jitterbug was his favorite. He was one who always enjoyed a good round of golf. He was a member of Kirk-Casey Post #366, American Legion, Seneca Falls, NY and a former member of both the Seneca Falls Elks Lodge and the Lt. Cyrus Garnsey Post VFW, Seneca Falls. He is survived by: His wife, Virginia Berrells Cappello of Seneca Falls whom he married on April 21, 1951. 1 son - Michael (Theresa) Cappello - Seneca Falls, NY 2 grandchildren - Kevin Cappello Ashley (Joe Dingledein) Cappello 1 great grandson - Liam Ethan Dingledein 2 nephews - Darin (Karen) Rutz & their daughter, Grace - Black Stone, MA. Dennis (Cheryl) Rutz and their son, Kyle St. Paul, Minnesota In addition to his parents, Albert was predeceased by 1 sister, Lucy Cappello Rutz and 1 brother, Louis Cappello The family would like to thank Unit 1 at the Huntington Living Center for their wonderful care and compassion.
