Arlene J. Caraher, 97, lifetime resident of the area, passed peacefully, surrounded by her family, at Pathway Home of the Finger Lakes on Friday, May 9th, 2025. A graveside service will be held this Saturday, May 17th at 9:30 AM at Restvale Cemetery, where Arlene will be laid to rest next to her late husband, William Sr. Donations in memory may be directed to Pathway Home of the Finger Lakes at Pathwayhome.org.
Arlene was born in Waterloo, NY, daughter of the late William and Lillian (Swanson) Fleury. She graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1946. On August 23rd, 1947, she married William H. Caraher Sr., a joyful union of 69 years until Bill’s passing in 2016. Together the couple had nine children, and Arlene made it a point to be home to raise her family. She was an excellent baker and cook, her children have many fond memories of her cooking, especially her mac & cheese. Beyond her culinary expertise, Arlene enjoyed knitting, sewing, and especially counted cross stitch. When not in the kitchen or working with her hands, Arlene loved to read, with Danielle Steel’s books ranking at the top of her list. In addition, she was a strong supporter of Mynderse Academy sports.
Arlene is survived by her five children, Daniel (Joanne) Caraher, Michael Caraher, Marjorie Brookins, Mary (Thomas) Green, Joseph (Wendy) Caraher; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-three great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Laurie Kinney Caraher; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and husband, Arlene was predeceased by three sons, William H., Jr., Kevin J., and William P. Caraher; daughter and son-in-law, Kristine (Mark) Bonney; four brothers, Vernon, Loren, Eldred, and Verlan Fleury; and son-in-law, Rick Brookins.
