Barbara A. Bochert, 77, lifelong resident of Seneca Falls, passed away on Friday, June 20th, 2025. A graveside service for her and her late husband, Dennis, will be held on Friday, June 27th at 2 PM at New York State Veterans Cemetery – Finger Lakes, 6632 NY-96A, Romulus, NY. A Celebration of Life will follow at 3:30 PM at Lt. Cyrus Garnsey III VFW Post 1323, 47 Fall St., Seneca Falls.
Barbara was born in Seneca Falls, daughter of the late Francis and Susan (Felice) Markel. She grew up in Seneca Falls and was a graduate of Mynderse Academy. Right after high school, she started working for Sylvania in Seneca Falls until the facility closed and then went on to work for Seneca Foods as the office manager, retiring after many years with the company. On August 16th, 1997, Barbara married Dennis Bochert, and the couple were side by side through all life’s ups and downs, until Dennis’ passing in 2020.
Barbara was a big fan and advocate for the VFW; she was a life member of both the Lt. Cyrus Garnsey III VFW Post 1323 and it’s auxiliary, as well as the Kirk Casey American Legion Post 366 and it’s auxiliary. She was a former treasurer for the VFW auxiliary, and she and Dennis spent countless hours at the VFW enjoying the company of their friends who were like family to them. Always one to look for a reason to get people together, she and Dennis loved to entertain at their home, where family and friends were always welcome. In her younger years, Barabara had enjoyed bowling and playing euchre. She was also a fan of the NY Giants and loved country music.
Barbara is survived by her son, Tim (Jeannine) Shumway; daughters, Wanda (David) Williams and Renee Bush; step-daughters, Denise (John) Wehrle, Annette Bochert, and Maryjane (Frank) Basile; grandchildren, David and Destiny Shumway, Michael Matyjewicz Jr., Danielle Williams, Daniel Williams Jr., Jordan Colegrove, Timothy (Darnae) Bush, Eric Bush, Kyle (Adrienne) Bush; six step-grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Rosemary Walker and Diane Hilkert; brother, Francis Markel; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, John Sobus and sister, Sandra Lee.
