Seneca Falls - Blanche I. (Peterman) Doty, age 96, of Seneca Falls, NY, passed away peacefully on October, 1, 2021, at Geneva General Hospital. Blanche will be sadly missed; not only by her vast family, but also by the many friends she made over her long lifetime. Blanche made friends wherever she went, and her warm smile and wink of her eye could brighten any room.
Calling hours are from 10:00 a.m. till 12 noon, with a religious service officiated by Fr. James Fennessy following at Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard Street, Seneca Falls, on Wednesday, October 13, 2021. Burial will immediately follow at St. Columbkille Catholic Cemetery, E. Bayard Street, Seneca Falls. A gathering to celebrate Blanche's life will be at 2:30 p.m. at the American Legion, 48 State Street, Seneca Falls. Masks would be greatly appreciated for all attending services.
Blanche was born on June 28, 1925, in Canoga, NY, the sixth child of twelve, born to Cornelius T. and Florence (Hall) Peterman. Blanche attended Mynderse Academy. She then worked, during the war year, at Westcott Rule, Sylvania, Kibbey's, Rumsey's and Loblaw's. Blanche then went on to cook at several local restaurants, including The Deerhead, Canoga Hotel, Fayette Hotel, Romulus Hotel and Willows. She also worked at Mynderse Academy as a cafeteria worker, finally retiring from the Johnson Home For Ladies in Seneca Falls. Blanche loved art. Drawing, coloring and painting wildlife and landscapes were her passion, as well as crocheting, ceramics and crafting.
Blanche married the love of her life, Richard G. Doty, on July 20, 1947. They had two sons, Lonnie R. (Birgit) Doty, and Randy L. (Liz) Doty, USN-Retired. Blanche was a member of St. Mary's Church, Waterloo, NY. She was a life-long resident of Seneca Falls/Canoga.
Besides her children, her grandchildren survive Blanche; Richard G. Doty II, Matthew P. (Shannon) Telyndru, Michael P. (Natalie Kent) Doty, Patricia A. (Michael) Bennett and Kirsten L. Doty; step-grandchildren, Glen Helmer, Lisa Helmer and Holly Helmer; great-grandchildren, Leah A. (Dusty) Millus, Ariana S. Telyndru, Gareth B. Telyndru, Avery L. and Lucille A. Bennett; step-great-grandchildren, Matthew and Kaitlyn Helmer, Adam and Arianna Delfi, Kayla J. Murphy, Lucas K. Murphy, Alexander M. Garrett and Ethan B. Garrett; Great-great-granddaughter, Hazel A. Millus; Step-great-great-grandchildren, Kori, Emberlee, Laylah and Tesla Mulligan, Adisynn Steiner and Serenity Murphy; many loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends also survive Blanche. Blanche's parents and husband predeceased her as well as her brothers and sisters; Cornelius Peterman, Mildred Nardi, Harold Peterman, Fred Peterman, Marjorie Kelly, Paul Peterman, Richard Peterman, Ava Rivers, Eugenia Morehouse, Herbert Peterman, and Sylvia Marcuccilli.
Memorial donations in Blanche's memory may be made to a charity of one's choice. Special thanks need to be made to Living Center South, including Gina Morris and the second and third floor medical staff at Geneva General Hospital for their kind and compassionate care.
