Seneca Falls: Burdette Shumway, 70, passed away on April 14th, 2023 at Rochester General Hospital. A graveside service will be held at New York State Veterans Cemetery - Finger Lakes, at the convenience of his family.
Burdette was born in Syracuse, NY, the son of the late Henry and Hazel (Webber) Shumway. Shortly after high school he joined the Army, where he served from 1971 - 1974. He spent most of his life living in the Finger Lakes where he was able to enjoy his passions in life. He was an avid fisherman, woodworker, and was well suited at fixing cars. At one point he had worked for Stevers Garage in Seneca Falls. He loved to take wandering drives through the countryside, take pictures of anything and everything, and he especially enjoyed a nice cold beer. Due to his easy going demeaner, animals and children were drawn to Burdette. He had a thirst for knowledge and his TV was always tuned to PBS.
Burdette is survived by his wife, Pamela; children, Cindy (Keith) Tewksbury, Jennifer (Wally) Teneyck, Michael (Jamie Dugan) Erb, and Amanda (Tony Gibbs) Sachs; sisters, Debbie (John) Eddy and Amy Shumway; as well as many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents, Burdette was predeceased by a daughter, Dina Shumway; and brothers, Henry Jr. and Steven Shumway.
