Carol A. (Van Epps) Messmer

Waterloo: Carol Messmer, 83, of Waterloo, passed away on Wednesday, May 25th, 2022 at her home with her daughters by her side. Calling hours immediately followed by a funeral service will be held on Friday, June 24th from 12 NOON - 2 PM at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. Interment to follow at St. Columbkille Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donation in memory may be made to Fetch a Friend Dog Rescue, 92 Garden St., Seneca Falls or a dog rescue of your choice.

Carol was born in Syracuse, NY, the daughter of the late Frederick and Frances (Ryan) Van Epps. She graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1956; went on to receive her X-Ray certification from the University of Rochester in 1957; and in 1986 she received her A.A.S in Radiology from Monroe Community College. She worked at Geneva General for many years as an X-Ray technician and also worked part time at Seneca Falls Urgent Care at Lifecare into her early 80's. On March 3rd, 1958 she married David Messmer, a blessed union of almost 40 years.

Over the years Carol had lived in many places, including Rhode Island, California, Ohio, and other areas of the United States, but she always considered the Finger Lakes her home. She was a member of the Canoga Fire Dept. Auxiliary and enjoyed being active and social. She enjoyed bowling, playing bocce, swimming, reading, travelling, and getting together for coffee with her friends.

Carol is survived by sons, Timothy (Molly), Jeffrey (Deborah), Douglas (Mary Beth), Michael (Julia) Messmer; daughters, Karen Messmer and Catherine Lasher; 8 grandchildren, Sarah Messmer, Lauren (Joseph) Tosto, Justin (Kellie) Gardner, Paul Gardner, Zachary (Elizabeth) Messmer, Elliott Messmer, Kyle Lasher, Ty Lasher; 3 great-grandchildren, Atticus, Paris, Francesca; and never to be forgotten, her favorite pet dog, Gibbs. She was predeceased by husband, David, and sister, Jean M. Amidon.
