Carson W. Lankford Sr., 85, of Seneca Falls, died after a long and courageous battle, on Wednesday, May 1st, 2024 at Geneva General, with his family by his side. A private Graveside Service with full military honors will be held on Thursday, May 9th, 2024 at 1 PM at New York State Veterans Cemetery - Finger Lakes. Colonel Lankford was born in Pocomoke City, MD, the son of the late J. Miles and Esther (Ward) Lankford. He attended local schools and went on to attend Western Maryland College where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in History. Upon graduation, he was commissioned as 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. While serving, Carson graduated from Command & General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS. During his 23-year career in the military, he served proudly during the Vietnam Conflict and also spent time stationed in Germany, Japan, numerous bases in the United States including the Seneca Army Depot, finally ending his military career as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Ammunition in South Korea. Later, in a civilian capacity, he served as the Director of Ammunitions at the Depot for nearly 10 years. He received many awards and decorations and retired with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. He was very proud of his military career and even after retirement was a member of the Military Officers Association of America (MOAA) and the Disabled American Veterans (DAV). Carson was also a member of Seneca Falls Elks Lodge 992, Seneca Falls Masonic Lodge Pocahontas 211, and Kirk Casey American Legion Post 366. In addition to his dedication to his country, Carson had his faith in God and was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Seneca Falls.

Carson is survived by his beloved wife, Kathryn; sons, Carson Jr. (Martha), Mark, and Joshua (Mary) Lankford III; daughter, Carolyn (James Woodside) Lankford; granddaughter, Kari (Ben); sister, Priscilla West; nieces, nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Joshua Lankford Jr., and brother-in-law, William West. The family would like to thank Eileen Covert, Linda Felice, and Helen Young for their help during Carson's illness. Additionally, they would like to recognize their angel-on-Earth, Pamela Fenik, for her years of support and friendship. They would like to recognize Carson's brother-in-law Ted Flock, and sister-in-law, Eileen Dyson, for their help and friendship. Finally, they would like to express their gratitude toward Reverend Leah Ntuala of the First Presbyterian Church of Seneca Falls for her spiritual guidance and comfort.
