Gene was born in Clifton Springs, the son of Clesson and Joyce (Copp) Becker Sr., and grew up in Waterloo. He graduated from Waterloo High School, Class of 1985, and in the Fall of the same year, joined the US Air Force. He proudly served in the Air Force during the Gulf War and returned stateside in 1995. For a short time, Gene lived in North Dakota before returning to Waterloo in 1997. A few years later, Gene was married to Flora Becker in the summer of 2003.
Over the years, Gene had worked for various local firms in different capacities. He had worked security for the NYS Chiropractic College in the late 90’s/early 2000’s, a salesman for Steve & Barry’s, and most recently for Zotos before health issues forced him to take a step back.
For many years, Gene was active at the Geneva American Legion where he was a member and had previously held First Vice Commander. Up until his passing he helped with the bell jar and the Queen of Hearts games. Additionally, Gene was the past Commander of the Geneva VFW Post 2670, the current Commander of the Seneca Falls VFW Post 1323, and had previously held the title of District Commander for the area. Nationally he was recognized and appointed as VFW National Aide-de-Camp.
Some of Gene’s biggest passions were playing his bass guitar, playing in his church’s fantasy football league, and he was a big fan of both the Washington Commanders and the Houston Astros. He loved spending time with his family, church family, and close friends. He also kept tabs on the N. Dakota Fighting Hawks football team, a loyalty that he picked up during his time in N. Dakota.
Gene is survived by his dearest wife, Flora; mother, Joyce; sister, Shelly Becker; brother-in-law, Clifford (Patty) Travis; nieces and nephews, Karrah (Bryn) Gebert-Fryer, Emily (Shayne) Barry, Eric (Kendel) Bruder, Corey (Pamela) Travis, Keith (Kim) Travis; great nieces, Mia and Paige Barry, Jocelyn Pfenning, and Anna Travis. Gene was predeceased by his father, Clesson Sr.
