April 22, 1942 — April 21, 2022

Waterloo

Waterloo: Cynthia Schlegel, 79, of Waterloo, passed away on Thursday, April 21st, 2022 at Huntington Living Center, one day short of her 80th birthday. Cindy was born on April 22nd, 1942 to John and Vera (Winifred) Chester in Albany, NY. She was married to George Schlegel on July 29th, 1960 and they lived in the Albany area for more than 10 years. In the early 1970's, she moved with her family to Gloversville, NY and took an active role in her community. In the mid 1980's, she served as a city councilwoman and Deputy Mayor for the city. She also played a pivotal role in her former husband's business, Schlegel's Auto. Having a knack for helping manage family businesses, she relocated to the Seneca Falls area in 1994 and opened the Magee Diner with her son Gary. At the diner, she took great joy in being the friendly face that greeted customers at their restaurant. For many years she and Gary worked side by side at the restaurant until she retired in 2010.

Cindy loved to spend time with her family and enjoyed taking trips with her children and grandchildren. She was an integral part of every family function; it wasn't a real party unless Grandma Cindy was there. She also enjoyed travelling on her own and vacationed in England shortly after retirement.

Cindy leaves a legacy of kindness, generosity, and extraordinary character. To her friends, she was always someone that they could count on. To her family, she was a mentor and a shining example of how to live, laugh and love.

Cindy is survived by her 2 sons, Gary (Katherine) and Paul (Mary-Karin) Schlegel; 4 grandchildren, Jessica (Robert) Austin, Nicholas, Carson; 2 great-grandchildren, Colton and Brooke, and brother, John Chester.

Her family will be holding a Celebration of Life Service on May 21st at 1pm at Parker's Grille, 86 Fall St., Seneca Falls, NY. For those wishing, donations in memory may be made to the Woman's Rights National Historical Park, Superintendent, Women's Rights NHP, 136 Fall Street, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.
