Debra L. McDermott, 72, passed away at Rochester General Hospital on March 6th, 2024, with her family by her side. A gathering to celebrate her life will be held on Saturday, March 30th from 1 PM - 5 PM at Kirk Casey American Legion Post 366, 48 State St., Seneca Falls.
Debra was born in Chicago, IL, the daughter of the late Lloyd and Doris (Kahl) Swiden. She lived most of her life in the Waterloo/Seneca Falls area, where she primarily worked as a Bartender. In December of 1975, she married Raymond McDermott, a union that has withstood the test of time for over 48 years.
Early on, Deb started her bartending career at the Arcade Pub in Seneca Falls before she took a few years off to raise her family. Once the kids were older, she tended bar at the Cyrus Garnsey VFW Post 1323 for many years, and then finished her career and retired from the Kirk Casey American Legion Post 366.
Deb's greatest passion in life was her family. She was an excellent cook and found great joy in getting the family together to share a meal she had made for them.
Debra is survived by her husband, Raymond; son, Patrick (Nichole) McDermott; step-son, Michael McDermott; beloved grandchildren, Vincent, Jackson, and Brody; great-granddaughter, Sophia; brother, Randy Swiden; as well as many nieces and nephews and close friends. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her step-son, Ray McDermott and sister-in-law, Shirley Swiden.
