Edward T. “Ted” Davids, 87, of Seneca County, New York, passed away peacefully of natural causes on October 31, 2025. Born on August 6, 1938, Ted was the 11th of 12 children born to Leo F. Sr. and Gertrude M. Davids.
A lifelong resident of Romulus, Ted lived life entirely on his own terms — steadfast, independent, and true to his convictions. A proud member of the Republican Party, the NRA and Elks Club, he stood firm in his beliefs and values throughout his life.
Ted began his career working in his father’s mink business before joining American Can Company in Geneva, New York. What began as an apprenticeship as a Journeyman Machinist became a remarkable 33-year career.
Known for his precision and keen eye, Ted earned the nickname “Deadeye” for his unmatched ability to spot anything that was out of square or not level. His gift for mechanical problem-solving was legendary — he could reverse-engineer and machine any engine or mechanical part, no matter how complex, and was especially known for his expertise with Opal GT sports cars & Volvo Penta engines and outboard lower units.
Throughout his life, Ted was the person family, friends, and neighbors turned to when something broke. Whether it was a car, boat, motorcycle, or household project, he could diagnose and repair it with ingenuity and skill. Never one to stop learning, he even became a certified electrician in his 50s and built and remodeled several homes for his children and himself.
Outside of work, Ted had a passion for the outdoors. A dedicated hunter and fisherman, he spent countless hours in the woods and on the water. Due to this passion, he established a game farm where he raised and sold pheasants, quail and chukars which were utilized to train dogs and field hunt.
He will be remembered for his sharp wit, calling it as he saw it, and an unwavering sense of independence — a man who lived life his way and left behind a legacy of craftsmanship, self-reliance, and quiet strength.
Ted is survived by his four children: Lynda (Dan) Sohn, Ken Davids, Roger (Barbara) Davids, and Sandy (Joe) Barbay; two sisters, Judy Davids and Betty Nary; as well as ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, and several nieces, and nephews.
A graveside service for Ted will be held on Tuesday, November 11th, at 10AM at St. Mary’s Cemetery on Preemption Rd., Geneva. Donations in Ted’s memory may be directed to the NRA.
