Seneca Falls - Eleanor Collins Shaffer, 93, died peacefully at home on Thursday, May 5, 2016. A prayer service will be held on Monday (May 9) at 9:45 AM at Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM at St. Patrick's Church, Seneca Falls, with Reverend Roy Kiggins as celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls. There will be no prior calling hours. If desired, contributions may be made to Pregnancy Care Center, 551 Exchange St., Geneva, NY 14456 or to the charity of one's choice. Eleanor was born in Stowell, PA. on November 4, 1922. She attended Penn State University where she met her future husband, Paul C. Shaffer. Eleanor and Paul were married in Altoona, PA. on June 29, 1943. Paul was employed as a ceramic engineer with Sylvania Electronics in Altoona. The family moved to Seneca Falls, NY in September of 1949 when Sylvania opened its new picture tube plant. She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, Seneca Falls. Eleanor is survived by her daughters, Clare Shaffer, Mary (Roger) King, Ruth (Stephen Jenkins) Shaffer, Catherine Shaffer, Marjorie (William) Eshenour and her sons, Charles (Linda) Shaffer, John Shaffer, Paul (Heidi) Shaffer, David (Lauren) Shaffer, Michael (Betty) Shaffer, brother-in-law, James D. Shaffer, sisters-in-law, Marjorie Shaffer Stormer, Nancy Shaffer, & Lucille Collins, 24 grandchildren & 21 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband, Paul Shaffer, her parents, Francis & Agnes Hope Collins, her son, James L. Shaffer, her grandsons, James P. Shaffer & Nathan D. Shaffer, & her brothers, William, James, Robert, & Walter Collins. The family would like to thank the staff of Lifetime Care and her personal home health aides and Dr. Joseph Lorenzetti for the care that they have given her over the past years.
