Elizabeth A. "Betty" (Wilson) Dowd

“Betty” Dowd, 89, of Seneca Falls, passed Thursday, May 22, 2025 at Huntington Living Center in Waterloo. At Betty’s request, there will be no public services. Donations in memory may be directed to Beverly Animal Shelter at beverlyanimalshelter.com.

Betty was born in Wolcott, NY on October 5, 1935, the daughter of the late Robert Lee and Doris (Wilkes) Wilson. She graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1953. While living in Seneca Falls, Betty owned and operated Ding-A-Ling Realty, the Pink Pooka hair salon, and the Wrangler Burger House. In the late 70’s, she relocated to Alabama where she worked as a Food Service Manager at several Kentucky Fried Chicken franchises. She returned to Seneca Falls in 2018 to be closer to her family. Betty enjoyed going to garage sales, reading, and her flower gardens, but mostly her dogs.

Betty is survived by son Daniel “Dewey” (Lynda Sohn) Dowd of Seneca Falls; daughter, MaryAnne (Stephen) Marr of Seneca Falls; son, Michael Dowd of Anniston, Alabama; and son, James (Annika) Dowd of Carrick-on-Suir, Ireland; nine grandchildren: Kristin (Tim) Sandroni, Steven Grillone, Nicholas Marr, Christopher “Matt” (Daisy Marie) Dowd, Brandon (Stefanie) Dowd, Corey (Lisa) Dowd, David (Stephanie) Dowd, Anthony Dowd and Lina Dowd; ten great grand-children: Steven Grillone; Dean and Samara Dowd; Carter, Chloe, Scarlett and Fiona Dowd; Brooklyn, Bexlie and Lincoln Dowd; several nieces and nephews; and finally special members of her extended family: Bridget Hilimire, Michelle Sohn, Keith Sohn, Lake Cunningham, Cole Sohn, Phynix Sohn and Remy Hilimire.

In addition to her parents, Betty was predeceased by her husband, Thomas Dowd; her brother, Charles Wilson; her sister, Roberta Halden; and her twin sister, Helen Holcomb Fincher.
