Harland Wood, 93, passed at his home in Barefoot Bay, FL, surrounded by his family, on Monday, April 6th, 2026. A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held on Tuesday, July 28th, 2026 at 11:00 AM, where he will be laid to rest with his late wife, Paulette, in St. Columbkille Cemetery.
Harland was born in Gouverneur, NY, son of the late Guy and Lottie (Langto) Wood. He grew up in Gouverneur, and when he was only 17, with the consent of his parents, he joined the US Army in 1949. Harland found his calling in the Army, where he served for 28 years in the military police, retiring with the rank of First Sergeant. He served during the Korean War, where he spent time in the Korean DMZ, and travelled all over the world. He and his wife, Paulette, were married on December 18th, 1958, in France. His last station was at the Seneca Army Depot in Romulus, with his family setting their roots in Seneca Falls, and where he stayed after retirement. After the Army, Harland worked at the Sylvania plant in Seneca Falls for another 12 years where he worked as a supervisor.
Outside of his military career and work, Harland loved to play golf. He was also an avid Boston sports fan, with the Red Sox and the Celtics being his favorite teams. In addition, he was a man of strong faith and was a lifelong Catholic.
Harland is survived by his daughters, Carol (Raymond) Wanner, Diana Y. Goff Wood, Cathy Stutler; four grandchildren, Christopher Forsythe, Nicole (Jason) Bishop, Mandi (Steven) Knight, Christopher Stutter; eight great-grandchildren, and two sisters, Libby Hammond and Donna Wood. In addition to his parents and wife, Paulette, Harland was predeceased by ten siblings.
