Harold "Mike" Marriam, 72, of Romulus, passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, March 14th, 2024. A gathering to celebrate his life will be held at a later time to be announced. Donations in memory may be directed to the Mynderse Academy Athletic Hall of Fame, 2 Butler Ave., Seneca Falls, NY 13148.

Mike was born in Auburn, NY, the son of the late Harold W. and Mildred E. (Diehl) Marriam. He grew up in Watertown, NY and graduated from General Brown High School, Class of 1969. He furthered his education at SUNY Potsdam, receiving his B.A. in Education in 1973 followed by his M.A. in Reading Education in 1977. During his time at Potsdam, Mike joined Psi Phi Delta fraternity and held a lifelong dedication to his brothers and the school, visiting both annually.

In 1979, he relocated to Seneca Falls where he began his 33-year career as an educator at Mynderse Academy. He also began his coaching career at this time, serving as football assistant from 1979-1982, JV wrestling coach from 1979-1983, boys' varsity tennis coach from 1980-2018, and girls' varsity tennis coach from 1998-2018. Over the years, he received numerous achievements and accolades including coaching both boys' and girls' tennis teams to many sectional titles; celebrating over 300 wins with the boys' varsity tennis program; was instrumental in expanding high school tennis programs throughout the Finger Lakes and Rochester area where he was recognized by the US Tennis Association (USTA) as one of the top scholastic coaches in the country; selected as the 2016 Rochester D&C All Greater Rochester Tennis Coach of the Year; a finalist for the USTA Coach of the Year in 2012 and 2013, and received the Virginia and Chuck Landis High School Coach of the Year Award at the USTA Eastern Tennis Conference in 2017. In addition to his coaching career, he served on the Section V Tennis Committee where he was the Class C Cochairman and served as a Section V soccer official from 1982-1997. He was inducted into the Mynderse Academy Athletic Hall of Fame in 2016 and has been on their committee since 2018.

Mike is survived by his children, Shannon (Daniel) Liggett and Kellen Marriam and their mother, Linda Marriam; two grandchildren, Caleb and Jonah Liggett; brothers, Robert (Linda) Vrooman, James Vrooman, Scott (Karen) Marriam; beloved aunt, Betty Singer of CA; and several nieces and nephews and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Gerald Vrooman and sister-in-law, Wilma Vrooman.
