SENECA FALLS: Hubert Lane Ritter died peacefully at his home on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. Born in
Fayette, New York, on October 1,1923 to Joel and Eva (McWayne) Ritter, he attended school in a one-
room schoolhouse in Fayette until 6th grade and graduated from Mynderse Academy High School in
Seneca Falls, N.Y. in 1942.
A World War II Veteran, he served as a US Navy pilot in the Pacific, enlisting in 1942 and serving from
January 1943 until December 1945. After military duty, he enjoyed working at Hosley's Drug Store in
downtown Seneca Falls while serving as an aide to State Senator Henry Griffith for five years. In 1950, he
began working at Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls, retiring in 1987. He was a long-time member of the
American Legion Post 366.
Hubert was a gentle man with a generous heart. He will be greatly missed by all of his family and his
friends. Predeceased by his wife of 72 years, Joan (Hanlin) Ritter, who died on March 10, 2020, he is
survived by four daughters, Donna (Michael) Mazzocco of Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.; Linda (Michael
Miklochik) of Vail, Ariz.; Susan Ritter of Ithaca, N.Y.; and Amy Ritter of Montour Falls, N.Y.; two
granddaughters, Kristina Mazzocco of New York City and Melissa Mazzocco of Bellevue, Wash.; sister-in-
law, Barbara Hanlin of Seneca Falls; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two
brothers and sisters-in-law, Richard (Ethel and Edna) Ritter and Edwin (Mary) Ritter.
Burial will be in Restvale Cemetery in Seneca Falls at the convenience of the family.
