SENECA FALLS, NY and CAPE COD, MA Jack F. Amidon, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, September 13 at his daughter and son-in-law's home in Monument Beach, Cape Cod after an extended illness. His family was extremely grateful to be able to honor his wish to convalesce at home the past year and a half. This invaluable time spent together provided much happiness, laughter and wonderful memories. Jack was born on May 29, 1928, the son of the late Harvey and Alice (Yoder) Amidon. He attended Seneca Falls schools until he began working at Gould's Pumps Inc. He worked there for 40+ years as a carpenter and later foreman until retiring in 1993. He wed Mary Delores Marrapese on July 7, 1959. One of his greatest accomplishments was building their home, where he lived until 2006. Jack was a devoted son, brother, husband, father and grandfather. His family was always his top priority and pride and joy. His three grandchildren brought him the most happiness, from their infancy through their young adult lives. He shared a special bond and love with each one. He was predeceased by his wife Mary in January 1997 after 37 years of marriage. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Susan and Richard Caffrey, his grandchildren, Kevin and Kyle Van Cleef, both of Boston and Kelly Van Cleef of San Diego, CA, granddog Logan and great-grandpuppy Benny. He is also survived by a dear family friend and secondary caregiver, Meghan Walsh of Monument Beach. He is survived by his brother Harry (Patsy) of Waterloo and their children and grandchildren, Allison, Jeff, Jillian and Michael Panek of Waterloo, Richard, Amber, Dylan and Logan Amidon of Waterloo and Jack and Elizabeth Amidon of Boston and California and by a sister Margaret Ann (Douglas) Beach of Connecticut and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He is preceded in death by four brothers, Louis (Mary), Gordon, George (Margaret Rose), Jimmy "Cricket" (Connie) Amidon and four sisters Jean (George Olchowy), Alyce (Ronald) Erickson, Barbara (John) Oakes and Nina (Howard) Alcott. Jack will be remembered for his love of and loyalty to family and friends. He was an avid hunter in his earlier years and continued to enjoy college and professional sports, including "betting the ponies" until the very end. Visitation with the family will be held from 4-7pm Friday, September 23 at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard Street, Seneca Falls, NY. A funeral service will be held at 10am Saturday, September 24 at Doran Funeral Home with burial immediately following at St. Columbkille Cemetery, 133 West Bayard Street, Seneca Falls.
