Seneca Falls - John Tanchak, 86, of South Spring St., Seneca Falls, NY, died Sunday March 3, 2013 at Seneca Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Waterloo, NY. Family and friends may call at the Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard St., Seneca Falls, on Friday (March 8, 2013) from 10 AM to 11 AM followed by a funeral service at 11 AM at the funeral home with Reverend James Fennessy, Pastor of St. Mary's Church, Waterloo, NY, officiating. Burial, with military honors, will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Waterloo, NY. If desired, contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, 4500 Winton Place, Rochester, NY 14623. John was born in Auburn, NY on January 11, 1927 the son of the late Michael & Anna Bairdsey Tanchak. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in both World War II & the Korean War. He had resided in Seneca Falls since 1955 moving from Auburn, NY. He was retired from the former Philips-GTE of Seneca Falls where he was a machinist. John enjoyed hunting and fishing and over the years led him to raise ducks on his own. He loved his gardening both flowers and vegetables. Most of all, John loved a good and fun polka party. He is survived by: His wife, Elsie Lewis Tanchak of Seneca Falls whom he married on April 23, 1955. 2 daughters - Kathryn (James) Annan - Syracuse, NY Theresa Tanchak - London, England 1 son - John M. (Karin) Maag-Tanchak - Albany, NY 3 grandchildren - Linda Annan, Jakob & Annemarie Maag-Tanchak 1 sister - Paula Holmes - Auburn, NY Several nieces and nephews In addition to his parents, John was predeceased by his daughter, Mary Rose Tanchak and 3 sisters, Anne Neddenien, Helen Torzon, & Mary Buhai.
