Katherine (Schoonover) Eighmey

Katherine Eighmey, 101, longtime resident of Seneca Falls, passed at Geneva Living Center – North after a brief illness, on Tuesday, October 28th, 2025. Calling hours will be on Thursday, November 6th from 4-7PM at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. Her Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, November 7th at 11AM at St. Patrick’s Church, 97 West Bayard St., Seneca Falls. She will be laid to rest with her late husband, Francis, in St. Columbkille Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory may be sent to Seneca County Meals on Wheels at Seneca County Health & Senior Services Building, 2465 Bonadent Drive, Suite 4, Waterloo, NY 13165.

Katherine was born in Nelson, PA, daughter of the late Mansel and Minnie (Gee) Schoonover. She grew up in Pennsylvania, one of 15 children. For many years she worked for Westinghouse in Bath, NY, before relocating to Seneca Falls in 1968, when she married the late Francis Eighmey. The couple were married at St. Patrick’s Church on December 7th, 1968. Katherine and Francis lived a wonderful life together, travelling all over the world. In addition to travelling, she enjoyed bowling in many of the local leagues at the time, and she was an avid fisherwoman. She loved to fish for walleye especially. Katherine also loved to crochet and play cards; Scat and Skip-bo being two of her favorite card games to play. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick’s Church and involved with the St. Francis St. Clare senior citizen group.

Unfortunately, her beloved Francis passed in 2018, shortly after the couple celebrated their 49th wedding anniversary. Katherine continued to live life the best way she knew how, being able to stay in her own home up until a few weeks before her passing.

Katherine is survived by her son, Clare (Kathy) Carson; five grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; half-brother, Robert Gardner; several nieces and nephews including Don Eighmey who she was especially close with; and extended family and many friends. In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Kit Carson; daughter, Carol Bates; fourteen brothers and sisters; and sister-in-law, Mary Gardner.
