Kathryn E. Anderson, most recently of Oswego, NY, and previous longtime resident of Seneca Falls, passed away on Thursday, May 14th, 2026, at Seneca Hill Manor in Oswego. She was 85. A time for visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27th from 10:00 AM - 12 NOON, with a funeral service to immediately follow at NOON at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. Interment will follow in St. Columbkille Cemetery. Donations in memory may be directed to the Seneca County House of Concern, or to the National Women's Hall of Fame.
Kathryn was born in Geneva, NY, the daughter of the late Charles and Kathryn M. (Sullivan) Hamill. She grew up in Geneva and attended St. Stephen’s School and DeSales High School. Kay went on to attend SUNY Cortland where she received her B.S. in Elementary Education. On July 2nd, 1966, she was united in marriage with Ronald E. Anderson at St. Stephen Church in Geneva.
Kathryn was an educator in the Seneca Falls area for over thirty years. When her children were younger, she started substitute teaching for over 10 years in the Seneca Falls School District and St. Patrick’s School. Kay then accepted a permanent teaching position for over twenty years as a third and fourth grade teacher at Elizabeth Cady Stanton Elementary School. Over her career, Kathryn taught generations of local children, and was known for her classroom management skills, but more importantly for her warm and welcoming demeanor with her students. She was especially known for her ability to make people feel special, and for her, it came from a place of genuineness. She was always caring for others, and her personality would light up whatever room she was in.
Kathryn was a person who liked to stay active and give back to her community. She enjoyed playing tennis and bridge with her friends and volunteered for years with meals on wheels.
To her family, Kathryn was always the light. She loved to spend time with her family, and her grandchildren were always the apple of her eye. Her family will miss her dearly, especially her warmth and compassion.
Kathryn is survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Ronald; sons, Michael (Lisa) and James (Desalyn) Anderson; daughters, Carolyn (Oscar) Flite and Diane (Matthew) Caughey; eight grandchildren, Sean (Dylan), Jason, Brett (Alexis), Jacob (Aislinn), Ian (Nashia), Ryan, Nicholas, Hannah; five great-grandchildren, Alessia, Everlee, Leo, Sloane, Varenna; sister, Mary (Robert) Hurlbutt; and sisters-in-law, Patricia Hamill and Annette Anderson. In addition to her parents, Kathryn was predeceased by her brother, James Hamill, and brother-in-law, Charles Anderson.
