Kelby was born Oct. 21, 1946, to Donald and Dorothy Kuney and grew up on their poultry, livestock and pony farm in Canoga, NY with his brother, Lynn. After graduating from Mynderse Academy, Kelby studied at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, where he met his first wife, Janet Payne. The couple settled in Seneca Falls, NY and raised two children, Timothy and Kathleen.
A born entrepreneur, Kelby launched Springbrook Grain Co., a local grain merchandising company, from his home basement. Over its existence, the company grew to include Canoga Transportation and Fox Run Recycling, and it was a major player in the northeast commodities market.
Kelby and Janet's marriage ended, and he married Priscilla Manzari of Seneca Falls, NY in 1991. They soon moved to Florida to care for his father, Donald Kuney. There, Kelby started U.S. Transportation, a freight brokerage company that has grown to over eight offices and 35 employees nationwide.
Kelby's drive and determination in his work carried through in his personal life. He loved riding his bikes, traveling in his RV, and sharing good food and wine with friends and family. He mastered the art of the mobile office; working many summers from his RV as he travelled the country with his wife and their two dogs. In recent years, he particularly enjoyed visiting national parks and exploring bike trails across the United States.
Kelby is survived by his wife, Priscilla; brother, Lynn Kuney; son, Tim Kuney; daughter, Kathleen Murdock and three grandchildren.
Arrangements are under the direction of Doran Funeral Home, Seneca Falls, NY.
