Seneca Falls

Lewis A. Johns, 75, lifelong resident of Seneca Falls, passed away on Monday, January 22nd, 2024, at The Homestead at Soldiers and Sailors Hospital, with his family by his side. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, February 1st at 10 AM at St. Patrick's Church, 97 W. Bayard St., Seneca Falls. A livestream of the mass will be available at DoranFuneralHome.com. Interment with military honors will follow at St. Columbkille Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Foundation, PO Box 50798, Jacksonville Beach, FL 32240 or to help fund a Mynderse Academy Football scholarship in Lewis' memory via Seneca Falls Education Foundation, Inc., PO Box 268, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.

Lewis was born in 1948, the son of the late Pasquale and Rose (DeRosa) Johns. He graduated from Mynderse Academy and went on to receive his associates from Cayuga Community College. From 1969-1970 he served in the US Navy. Shortly thereafter he took employment with Goulds Pumps, where he worked for over 42 years before retiring in 2010. He was a member of Kirk Casey American Legion Post 366, serving on the Executive Committee, longtime member of the Seneca Falls Elks Post 992, and on any given beautiful summer day in the Finger Lakes could be found on the course at Silver Creek Golf Course.

For many years, Lewis officiated numerous high school and youth basketball, volleyball, and football sports games. He was especially proud of the 37 years he served with the Section V Finger Lakes Football Officials Association, many of those years he was Game Coordinator.

Lewis is survived by his wife of 28 years, Glenda Johns; children, Krista Johns-Calabrese, Jeffrey (Casey) Johns, Marci (Tim) McGinn; grandchildren, Rylee and Brock Calabrese, Nicolas Johns, Gabrielle and Mitchell McGinn; sister, Denise (Mario) Agnello; brother-in-law, Charles (Patricia) Burg; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his father and mother-in-law, Charles (H. Elizabeth) Burg and sister-in-law, Betty (Ronald) Heusler.

Lewis' family extends their heartfelt appreciation to all of the staff at The Homestead for their loving care during his stay.
