Liza Ball Huntington Merriam, 95 years old, passed away December 3, 2021 at Heritage Hall West, Agawam, MA. A memorial service was held on December 6, 2021 at 11am at the 2nd United Congregational Church in Westfield, MA. A service in Seneca Falls will be held later in the spring with burial at Springbrook Cemetery.
Mrs. Merriam was born February 16, 1926 in Jerusalem, NY, the daughter of Charles and Bertha (Eastwood) Ball. She graduated from Canandaigua Academy in 1943.
She worked at Goulds Pumps, Welcome Wagon, Seneca Falls Chamber of Commerce, and in 1965 became the Executive Director of the Seneca County American Red Cross, where she served until 1987.
During her service at the Red Cross she served on founding committees for several local social agencies including the House of Concern and the Seneca County Senior Center. Mrs. Merriam also was a member of several organizations and an elder of the Seneca Falls Presbyterian Church. Her life's passion was for her family and caring deeply for others. In 1979 she received the Seneca County Woman of the Year recognition for her service to her community and the Paul Harris Fellow from the Seneca Falls Rotary Club.
She is survived by: son, Frederick (Janet) Huntington III, Westfield MA; daughters, Jean (Woody) Bowman, Pasadena, MD, and Karen (Stephen) Beals, Westfield, MA; her grandchildren - Darren (Nickole) Bowman, Marika (Joshua) Kraus, Sarah Huntington (Phil Kuts), Lorienne Beals (Alessandro Perin) and Scott (Thanh) Huntington; six great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren and six step-great grandchildren; her twin sister, Lena Hanley Delelys of Rochester, NY, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by husbands, Frederick Huntington, Jr. and Donald Merriam, both parents, three brothers and one sister.
Donations may be sent to the American Red Cross, United Way of Seneca County or First Presbyterian Church of Seneca Falls. In remembrance, please smile and give a little giggle.
