Mary Grace (LaManna) Saracino

July 21, 1923 — January 14, 2021

Phelps, NY - It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Mary Saracino, 97 of
Phelps NY, formally of Seneca Falls, NY. Mary passed on Jan 14, 2021 following a brief stay at
Newark-Wayne Community Hospital, Newark, NY.

Mary was born in Seneca Falls, NY on July 21, 1923, the daughter of the late Joseph and Angelina
(Izzo) LaManna, she was the oldest of three siblings. She married Mario Saracino on October 3, 1942
with whom she celebrated 73 years of marriage. Mary was a stay at home mother, raising two children
while Mario ran the Seneca Baking Company on Chestnut Street in Seneca Falls. Mary would
eventually take jobs at The Workingman Store and Hang Ups, both in Seneca Falls. In her later years
she did volunteer work at the Seneca Nursing home while her mother was a resident there.

She enjoyed cooking and baking for family and friends and loved having company and you never left
her house hungry especially if she was making pizza. Holidays were a special time at her house with so
many wonderful Italian cookies and treats. She would often make food care packages and send them
through the mail to her children and grandchildren.

She loved animals and could often be found throwing Cheerios from her kitchen window to a bunny that
would stand on its hind legs and beg for them when it heard her voice. She also loved to feed and
watch the birds especially the cardinals and hummingbirds at her window feeder.

She loved gardening and had one of the nicest flower gardens when living on Rumsey Street, flowers
lined the sidewalks leading to the door of the house as well as a good portion of her back yard. She
took pride in nurturing her roses and having the nicest property she could afford.

After her children went on their own, she jumped at the chance to babysit for two of her great nephews
while their parents worked. She helped raise them and loved having ‘little ones' around again. They
became part of the family and have stayed in touch with her ever since.

Mary loved to paint and was a promising artist. She gave her paintings to family and friends and to
those who were interested and appreciated them including the Seneca Nursing & Rehabilitation Center
in Waterloo. She won recognition by being featured at the International Spring Festival in Geneva, NY.
She also liked to sew and did alterations for friends and family.

She attended Mynderse Academy and was a member of St. Patrick's church in Seneca Falls.

Since Mario passed away in 2015, She has been living in Phelps at Vienna Gardens, an independent
senior living center, and has made friends there. The Vienna Gardens staff liked her and was very
good to her, affectionately calling her "Little Mary".

She will be remembered as a caring, loving and giving person, proud of her home and family and
welcoming all into her home. She loved life, she loved to laugh but above all she loved her family. She
taught her children to be polite, respectful and courteous and when you're invited somewhere never go
empty handed. She wanted her family to remember their heritage and history through stories and
memories. We hope her messages live on with all whom she touched in her 97+ years of living.

Mary is survived by:
