Michael J. Comerford, 80, of Seneca Falls, passed in the comfort of his home, on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025. A graveside service, with full military honors, will be held on Wednesday, December 10th at 11 AM at the New York State Veterans Cemetery – Finger Lakes, 6632 State Rt. 96A, Ovid, NY. Michael was born on October 18th, 1945, son of the late Edward and Anna (Lepkowski) Comerford. He graduated from Camden Central School in 1963, and soon after enlisted in the US Navy. He proudly served for 3 years, and upon his discharge in 1966, joined the Oneida Police Department. In February of 1970, he joined the NYS Police, where he was a Trooper on the NYS Thruway for 17 years, retiring in 1987. One of the highlights of his police career was working at the 1980 Winter Olympics that were held in Lake Placid.
On May 26th, 1990, he was united in marriage with the former Dorothy Birdsall, the couple enjoying 35 years together.
Mike was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed fishing and deer hunting. In the summer he enjoyed taking his grandsons to the lake to fish, picnics with his friends, and cooking out on the grill. He was a loyal member of the Woodchuck Hunters Lodge in Long Lake, NY, where he was instrumental in the building of the lodge. He loved to spend time at the lodge; many hours spent hunting in the Adirondacks with his best buddy, Jim Lundrigan; and many friendships formed over the years.
Mike was a member of the Seneca Falls VFW Post 1323 and the Kirk Casey American Legion Post 366, where he was a member for 40 years.
Mike is survived by his beloved wife, Dorothy; sons, Scott, Kyle and Kevin (Diana) Comerford; daughter, Holly Sturgess; daughter-in-law, Delight Comerford; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; brothers, Jerry, Jim (Donna), David (Jody) Comerford; sisters, Betty Richardson, Terry (Denver) Sharpe, Donna Villemareppe, and Bernice Sharp. In addition to his parents, Mike was predeceased by his sons, Jeffrey and Matthew Comerford.
