Mona J. Messecar, longtime resident of Seneca Falls, passed peacefully at Geneva General Hospital on Wednesday, February 4th, 2026. Calling Hours for Mona will be held on Wednesday, February 11th from 11AM – 1PM, with a Funeral Service to immediately follow, at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. Mona will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo next to her late husband, Harold, in the springtime.
Mona was born in Greenfield, NC, daughter of the late Benjamin and Doris (Rawls) Highsmith. She grew up in Hampton, Virginia where she graduated from Hampton High School, Class of 1956. In the early 1960’s, Mona moved to Seneca Falls, and shortly after married the love of her life, Harold Messecar. Harold passed away in 2022, after being side by side with Mona for 57 years.
Over the years, Mona worked for several local businesses. When she first came to town she worked for W.T. Grants department store, followed by Horizon Bank in downtown Waterloo, where she worked as a loan officer. She had also worked for Pick-A-Flick on Fall St. in Seneca Falls and closed out her working years at the Seneca Falls Central School where she had worked in the cafeteria.
Mona loved to spend time with her family and friends. She loved the thrill of going to the movies, and the music of her youth. She especially loved Elvis Presley. Later in life she found peace and solace in crocheting.
Mona is survived by her children, Joseph Parker, Robert Parker, Michele (Jim) Buck, Harold (Alison) Messecar; grandchildren, Roberta (Oscar) Yuan, Jason Parker, Jimmy Buck, Brandon (Liz) Messecar, Griffin Messecar, Olivia Messecar, Morghan Messecar; great-grandchildren, Logan and Liam Yuan, Anthony Buck, and Lilah Messecar; sister, Angie Kuzior; as well as several nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to her parents and husband, Mona was predeceased a grandson, Cameron Messecar; and daughter-in-law, Peggy Parker; sisters, Janet Imler, and Betty Novosel.
