In keeping with Nick’s wishes, a graveside service, with military honors, will be held on Friday, August 28th at 1:00 PM in St. Columbkille Cemetery. Donations in his memory may be directed to St. Patrick’s Church (Parish Office), 35 Center St., Waterloo, NY 13165, or to a charity of one’s choice.

Nick was born in Seneca Falls, son of the late Michael and Esther (Cupido) Zona. He grew up in Seneca Falls and graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1963. He later furthered his education at Cayuga Community College, receiving an associates degree. Nick also served a six-year term in the Army National Guard, fulfilling his duty to his country. He had worked for many years at Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls and later retired from Tessy Plastics in Elbridge.

A man of strong faith, Nick was a lifelong member of St. Patrick’s Church. He was also a longtime member of the SMS and the Seneca Falls Kirk Casey American Legion Post 366. Though Nick was known for his reserved personality and his quiet demeanor, he also possessed a great sense of humor that was sure to brighten up the day. One of Nick’s greatest joys in life was being a grandfather. He shared a special bond with his grandson, Kayden, and he loved spending as much time with him as he could.

Nick is survived by his sons, Christopher (Dr. Shannon) and Joshua Zona; beloved grandson, Kayden Nicholas Zona; Christopher’s stepsons, Andrew and Patrick Mattern; brother-in-law, William J. Morgan Jr.; several nieces and nephews; as well as a devoted friend who was like family, Vickie Swinehart. Additionally, Nick is survived by his boys’ mother and his previous spouse, Lori Swinehart, with whom the two shared a friendly relationship over the years.
