Seneca Falls: Passed away on Friday, December 25th, 2020 at the Pathway Home, with his loving family by his side. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, January 2nd at 1PM at St. Patrick's Church in Seneca Falls.
Paul was born in Corning, NY, the son of the late Edmund and Beatrice (Bernt) Wenderlich.
He received a B.A. from Cornell University in Personnel Management, and his M.B.A from the University of Buffalo. After some moving around he and his wife Fran finally settled in Seneca Falls. He spent time working at Gould's Pumps, as a partner in a personnel company, as a Toll Collector on the NYS Thruway, and ended his career retiring from the IRS as a Revenue Officer.
Paul was involved in the community that he loved. He was a member of St. Francis & St. Clare Parish where he served on the Parish Council; as a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, and helped with Pre-Cana and Marriage Encounter. He volunteered as a tax preparer for the Office of the Aging, tutor for Literacy Volunteers, board member of and actor for the Seneca Community Players, was a member of the Seneca Falls Zoning Board, volunteered with the Red Cross, the Boy Scouts of America, various booster clubs, boards of local charities and played Santa at Frank Knight Elementary School.
For all of his hard work and dedication, Paul has been honored by receiving: Certificate of Service to the Community from Finger Lakes Social Ministry, Certificate of Appreciation for Outstanding Volunteer Service from the NYS Department of Corrections, Seneca County United Way Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award from the Seneca Community Players, Antonio Varacalli Award from the Town of Seneca Falls, Senior Citizen of the Year from Seneca County and the State of NY, and a recipient of The Sharing the Light Award from Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes.
Paul had a love for travel and adventure, from the month long family camping trip across the United States, traveling to various foreign countries to learn their culture and traditions to hiking all 2190 miles of the Appalachian Trail.
In addition to his parents, Paul is predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Frances; sister, Mary and brother, Jean; survived by his son, Steven (Desta) Wenderlich; daughters, Leslie (Teddy) Priebe, Kirstin (Kipp) Goodman, Paula (Jim) Coffey; grandchildren, Danielle and Nicole Priebe, Nicholas and Emlyn Goodman, Jared and Marissa Coffey, Gregory Wenderlich; brother, Karl (Germaine) Wenderlich; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory may be made to Pathway Home, Catholic Charities of the Finger Lakes, or Seneca Community Players.
As Paul often said, support your local community by volunteering, "try it, you'll like it!"
