Seneca Falls - Philomena Mary Cammuso, 77 of Clinton Street, Seneca Falls, passed away surrounded by Family and Friends on April 15, 2017. Friends and Family may call at Doran Funeral Home, 4 E. Bayard Street, Seneca Falls, NY on Thursday (April 20) from 4 PM to 7 PM. Philomena's Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday (April 21) at 12 PM (Noon) at St. Patrick's Church, Seneca Falls by Reverend James Fennessy, Pastor. Burial will follow in St. Columbkille Cemetery, Seneca Falls, NY. If desired, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Francis/Saint Clare Parish 25 Center Street, Waterloo, N.Y. or the charity of your choice. Philomena was born in Seneca Falls, New York on May 15, 1939, the daughter of the late Anthony and Adeline Vinciquerra Cammuso. She was a lifelong resident of Seneca Falls. She graduated from Mynderse Academy with the Class of 1957 and received her R.N. degree from Saint Joseph's School of Nursing in Elmira in 1960. She worked at Geneva General Hospital for 25 years in various management positions. Philomena was a lifelong learner. While at Geneva, she continued to pursue higher education, and went back to college to obtain her Bachelor of Science and Masters Degree in Education from Elmira College, graduating in 1985. Philomena became an instructor of Nursing at the Community College of the Finger Lakes in Canandaigua, New York and the Board of Cooperative Education Services in Stanley, New York.In1986, she went to Clifton Springs Hospital and worked there in several management positions. While there, she served as Vice-President of Nursing, Director of Education, Social Work, Utilization Services, and Director of the Emergency Room. She also held the position of Risk Manager and Corporate Compliance Officer until her retirement in early 2002. She also holds an MS in Management from the New School of Social Research. During her life, she was a very active member of the community she loved. Through the years, she served on Saint Patrick's Parish Council, was President and current officer of the S. M. S. Auxiliary, a member of the National Women's Hall of Fame, President of Birthright of Seneca County, a member of the Saint Anthony's Commission, Seneca County Children's Committee, in addition to the Rotary and Kiwanis Clubs of Seneca Falls. She also served on the Board of Directors of the American Heart Association of the Finger Lakes, was a member of the National Business and Professional Women's Association and served on the Seneca County Chamber of Commerce Tourism Advisory. She also served as President and then Director of the Seneca Falls Historical Society, and was the third woman to be honored with the prestigious Father Beatini Award given to an outstanding citizen of Italian Heritage. She received the "Woman of the Year" Award in 2002 from the Women's History Month Coalition. She was roasted by the Kiwanis in 2012 and has been chosen as the recipient of the Community Service Award at this July's Convention Days in Seneca Falls. Even though Philomena had many commitments, she always made her family a priority. She loved to travel and regularly took her nieces as her travel companions. She also could frequently be found enjoying a good meal with her friends in the community. She is survived by her sister, Rose Cammuso-Tiballi, brother-in-law Timothy Scheltz, nieces, Lisa (Dr. Randy) Mitchell, Kimberly (Sean) Murphy, and Toni Marie Tiballi; her special great nephews Owen and Eamon Murphy, great niece Leslie (Paul) Plucinik, and great-great niece Loren Plucinik, special Lunch Bunch Friends in addition to aunts, uncles, and cousins. In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her brothers Lawrence and Anthony, sister Anna Lucy Scheltz, and brother-in-law Ronald J. Tiballi. The family would like to thank the staff at Geneva General Hospital Living Center South and the entire staff in the ICU for the care and kindness shown to Philomena and her family. A special thanks to Dr. Seth Mensah and Dr. Kristin Baltazar-Ford for their compassion and extreme patience for allowing this retired, strong-willed nurse to do it "her way".
