Sergeant Raymond H. Schaefer, 31, of Auburn, NY and previously of Waterloo, NY, passed unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, July 24th, 2025. Calling hours will be on Tuesday, August 5th from 4:00 – 7:00 PM at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. A private funeral service will be held at the convenience of his family. Donations in memory may be directed to 22aday.org or through a purchase at the Til Valhalla Project.
Raymond was born in Canandaigua, NY and grew up all over the Finger Lakes. From a young age, Ray’s interests revolved around firearms, motorcycles, and working with his hands. He enjoyed going to the shooting range to shoot his guns and develop his shooting skills. He was also a big history buff, who loved to watch the History channel and learn new things about the past. Ray also loved riding his motorcycle and the freedom of the open road. He always enjoyed working on bikes, whether on his own, or helping a friend in need. Ray possessed a vast mechanical knowledge of cars, trucks, and pretty much anything with a motor in it. This knowledge led him to his calling in the US Army Reserves. His position allowed him to wear many hats, and he enjoyed the camaraderie of working with other likeminded individuals towards a common goal.
The one thing that stands out for those that knew Ray was his willingness to help a friend in need. He purposely kept a small social circle but was very loyal to those within that circle. He loved to spend time with his family and his close friends, especially his nieces and nephew.
Ray is survived by his beloved mother, Sharlotte Briggs Yost; father, Raymond J. Schaefer; sisters, Jessica (Tony) Jett and Nicole (Stephen) Crane; nieces and nephew, Isabella and Riley Jett and Thomas and Jessica Crane; K9 companions, Ricochet and Tyke; as well as several aunts, uncles, cousins, and extended family. Ray was predeceased by his maternal grandparents, Sandra and Raymond Briggs; paternal grandparents, Sharlene and Harold Schaefer.
