Listen to Obituary

Rose R. Weil, 94, most recently of Seneca Falls, and previously of Brooklyn, NY, passed on Tuesday, January 6th, 2026, surrounded by the love and care of her family and care givers. Family and friends are invited to gather on Saturday, January 10th at the Doran Funeral Home at 4 East Bayard Street, Seneca Falls. Doors will open at 3 PM for visitation with the family, and the sharing of memories and stories celebrating Rose’s life will commence at 4 PM. In light of Rose’s belief that you should support what you believe, donations in her memory may be directed to a group or organization that you are passionate about.

Rose was born in Suffern, NY, the daughter of Jewish immigrants. She was a lifelong resident of New York City. Over the years she worked as an Executive Secretary for the College Art Association of America, managed the Art Dealers Association, and assisted families in meeting their childcare needs and helping bring cultural diversity to their homes, as a community counselor with Au Pair in America. She also volunteered in food pantries and in adult literacy programs.

To say that Rose was a one-of-a-kind would be an understatement. She had a zest for life that was contagious. She loved art, movies, reading, good food and unique cuisine, and most important, travel. Over the years, Rose had travelled all over the world, visiting Russia, Scandinavia, Mexico, Israel, Britain, Greece, and Italy. She was a native speaker of Yiddish and also learned Italian and a bit of Hebrew. Rose extended her passion for travel to her grandchildren, such that when they reached a certain age she would take them on a trip any place they wanted so they could experience more of the world.

Rose was also known for her button collection, comprising hundreds of buttons collected at home and abroad. She enjoyed sharing the stories that each one told. They made the trip with her to Seneca Falls when she relocated to be closer to her daughter two years ago.

As Rose’s family expanded and her children started having kids, she found another love in life, being a grandmother. She loved to see and spend as much time as she could with her grandkids and family.

Rose is survived by daughter, Rachel Weil and her wife, Becky Bly; sons, David Weil and his wife, Rachel Friedberg, and Michael Weil; grandchildren, Ariel, Yoni, Tamar, Benjamin, Caroline; as well as extended family and friends.

Rose’s family would like to extend a very special thank you to Rochester Regional Health Hospice for their support at the end of Rose’s life, as well as her amazing caregivers; Patty Poorman, Mary Fischer, Carol Labour, Vicki Fisher, Jennifer Felshaw, Charlotte Lind, Lisa Kregelstein, Mackenzie Ellison, Colby Scannell, and Diane Hay, who were instrumental in her care.
