Santo P. “Sam” Calcagno, 90, who spent the majority of his life in Seneca Falls, passed away on Friday, January 2nd, 2026 in Coldwater, Michigan, with his loved ones at his side. A private funeral mass will be held at the convenience of his family, and he will be laid to rest in St. Columbkille Cemetery with his parents and sisters. Sam was born in Rochester, NY, the only son of the late Philip and Viola (Zona) Calcagno. As a young boy he grew up in Victor, NY, but the family moved to Seneca Falls in 1951 and Sam graduated from Mynderse Academy with the class of 1955. In 1955 he joined the Army, where he honorably served as an MP for 3 years, and returned home in 1958.

Sam worked for Eisenhower College in Seneca Falls, in their maintenance department before retiring after many years.

For those that knew Sam, knew of his zest and love for life. Family and friends meant the world to Sam. Many of the friendships that began when he was young were still with him when he passed, as he held his friends close over the years. To Sam, friendship wasn’t just for people either, as he had several pet dogs that he shared a special bond with.

Sam will be remembered fondly by those that knew him best for his big smile.

Sam was predeceased by his parents, and sisters, Frances and Louise Calcagno.
