Calling Hours are Monday, May 1st from 4 - 7 PM at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 2nd at 11 AM at St. Patrick's Church, 97 West Bayard St., Seneca Falls. Burial with Navy honors will follow at St. Columbkille Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Patrick's Church (Parish office), 35 Center St., Waterloo, NY 13165.
Sy was born in Seneca Falls, the son of the late Sylvester and Caroline (Lippa) Faiola, Sr. He graduated from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1949 and then went on to proudly serve in the US Navy during the Korean War. After returning to Seneca Falls, Sy joined and was active at the Kirk Casey American Legion Post 366. He worked as a Machinist at Goulds Pumps and retired after spending over 30 years with the company. While working at Goulds, he held positions as Secretary and Treasurer with United Steelworkers Local 3298 Union. For years, Sy had run a local catering business where he provided food for all kinds of parties, weddings, showers, bowling banquets, and any event that needed great food. Before his passing, he was one of the oldest living members of the SMS, where he had served for years as Trustee. If Sy wasn't at the SMS or catering an event, you'd likely find him volunteering his time at one of St. Patrick's Church events where he was especially dedicated to the annual St. Anthony Festival. As active as he was in the community, Sy still found time to tend to his garden, enjoy a round of golf when he could, and was a very dedicated family man.
Sy is survived by his wife, Elisa; son, Robert (Laurie); daughters, Roberta (Don) Wegeng, Linda (Tom) Faiola-Jenkins, Renata (Curt) Jones, Laura (Donald) O'Connor; stepsons, Massimo (Rose) and James Giovannini; step-daughters, Adriene (Daniel) Emmo, Paula Sposito, Lisa (Larry) Kurtz, Victoria (Randy) Lanning; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Diane Rossi Faiola in 1975; stepdaughter, Terry Marino; and his 10 older siblings who passed before him.
