Valentina (Roth) Suhanov

Valentina Suhanov, 79, of Canandaigua, passed away in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by the love of her family. In keeping with Valentina’s wishes, all services are private, held at her family’s convenience.

Valentina was born in Poland, daughter of the late Edward and Klaudia (Astaszenkowa) Roth. She grew up in Poland and after high school, pursued an interest in drafting. When she was in her early 20’s, she emigrated to the United States, and on May 11th, 1969 in Rochester, NY, she was united in marriage with Alexander Suhanov. Shortly after marriage, Valentina and Alexander began their family, first with the birth of their son, Richard, and later their daughter, Margaret. Once the children started school, Valentina took employment as a design drafter for a few engineering firms in the area, most notable was her time at Sear-Brown Associates, where she worked for over 20 years before retiring to spend more time with Alexander.

Over the years, Valentina had many different interests, but whatever it was, she always enjoyed doing it with her family. Though she would frequently downplay it, she loved to cook for others and was an excellent cook of all different types of food. She loved to collect art glass, and shopping was a passion of hers her whole life. When her kids were younger, she made it a point to take them on vacation. They would frequent Toronto and Niagara Falls, Canada, multiple trips to Disney, and also vacations to the Bahamas. Valentina also enjoyed dressing to the nine’s and looking her best.

Valentina is survived by her husband of 55 years, Alexander; son, Richard (Kathy Lewis) Suhanov; daughter, Margaret Suhanov; brother, Leo (Halina) Roth; goddaughter and niece, Krystal (Dan) Smith; niece, Danielle (Dean) Brooks. She was predeceased by her parents.
