Velma A. (DelPapa) Avveduti

April 20, 1930 — December 7, 2022

Seneca Falls

Fayette: Velma Avveduti, 92, died with her husband at her side, on Wednesday, December 7th, 2022 at her home. Family and friends are invited to calling hours from 10AM - 12Noon immediately followed by a funeral service on Wednesday, December 14th at Doran Funeral Home, 4 East Bayard St., Seneca Falls. Burial will follow at St. Columbkille Cemetery. Donations in memory may be made to a charity of one's choice.

Velma was born in Waterloo, NY, the daughter of the late Joseph and Alice (Estes) DelPapa. She graduated from Waterloo High School where she was a cheerleader and also volunteered as a candy striper at Waterloo Hospital. It was while she was still in high school that she met Paul Avveduti and the couple started their life journey together. Marrying on June 23, 1951, the couple has shared in over 71 years of marriage. Early on in their marriage, due to Paul's military duties, Velma and Paul would come to call many places home. No matter where they ended up, Velma always made it feel like home, and she always found new friends or ways to get involved with her community. She liked to stay active and as a young woman she enjoyed playing softball and bowling, and in her later years she enjoyed walking, water aerobics and Bocci. She was an active member of the SMS Auxiliary, the Canoga Fire Dept. Auxiliary, and was also a founding member of the Canoga Cuties craft group.

Velma is survived by her husband, Paul; children, Karen (Robert) Humphrey, Jessica (Galen) Humphrey, Susan (Al) Gibbon, Robert (Carrie) Avveduti, Emily (Van) Birdsall, Milissa Peznola; sister, Gladys DelPapa; 21 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews and extended family. She was predeceased by sisters, Emma Eddington, Clara Nelson, Mary Huff, Alice Young, Helen Erway, Annabelle DelPapa, Thelma Kelsey; and brothers, Joseph and Richard (Ken) DelPapa.

Velma's family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Tammy Guerreri and Jodi Hennessy for their care of Velma, as well as Lori Smith at Lifetime Care Hospice and the whole team at UR Medicine Home Care for their help and support.
