Charles & Iyla Wendt

Waterloo: Charles "Bob" and Iyla Wendt, ages 86 and 83 respectively, of Waterloo, passed away peacefully in their home with their family and devoted cat Murry by their side. The couple, who were always together, passed only days apart. Bob passing on Friday, November 19th, 2021 and Iyla passing on Monday, November 22nd. A service for the couple will be held at the convenience of the family. Donations in memory may be made to either Beverly Animal Shelter, 50 E. River St., Waterloo, NY 13165 or to Pathway Home of the Finger Lakes, PO Box 516, Seneca Falls, NY 13148.

Charles was born in Niagara Falls, NY and relocated to the Waterloo/Seneca Falls area in 1962. He served in the Army reserves for many years and also worked for P&C Foods until his retirement. He was an active member of the Boy Scouts and Waterloo Lions Club where he served on many boards and was twice past King Lion. Bob loved to make you laugh and enjoyed spending time with his family.

Iyla was born in Machias, NY and relocated to the area with Bob. She worked for the Waterloo Central School in the cafeteria. Iyla was also a member of the Waterloo Lions Club, and her hobbies included crafting, knitting, crocheting and ceramics. She especially enjoyed making things for her family.

Bob and Iyla were high school sweethearts who were married in 1954 and have been inseparable since. They not only built a life together for themselves but for their five children as well. They are survived by sons, Thomas (Roberta) and John; daughters, Deborah (Ken) Webber and Susan Altimari; daughter-in-law, Lela Wendt; nine grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and their beloved cat, Murry. Bob and Iyla are predeceased by their parents as well as their son, Lewis, who passed only a month before them.
