Seneca Falls

Seneca Falls
On September 18, 2021, Eugene Barry Bradshaw II, 83, soared home on angel wings. He was greeted by those who had gone on before him, including his parents, Eugene B. and Dorothy Leamer Bradshaw, and his beloved wives, Carman Sivill Bradshaw, Mary Ann Crego Bradshaw, and Barbara Cornelson Bradshaw.

Barry was born into a farming family and was raised in a grand, brick homestead built by his uncles in 1868. He attended a one-room schoolhouse in Dakota City, Nebraska, and graduated from Sioux City High School at age 16. He attained a degree in chemical engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology in 1959. While employed as a salesman for Goulds Pumps in Chicago, he attended night school to complete his Juris Doctorate from John Marshall Law School. He remained a loyal supporter of his alma mater and the many lifetime friends he met while in school.

When invited to Seneca Falls for a position with Goulds Pumps, he and his young wife relocated. They fell in love with the lakes, the people, and the way of life, and quickly became fixtures in the community. As the VP and General Counsel for Goulds Pumps for over thirty years, Barry was a true leader and guided company decisions with a strong moral compass. He cared more for people and the environment than profits. He took time to greet employees at all levels of the company, reassuring them of their importance to the Goulds family. Many of his closest friends were colleagues from Goulds.

Barry was a pillar in the community. Whether seen at Red's on Thursdays eating spirals with his friends, kids and grandkids, slicing the ball at the SF Country Club, or actively participating in his local church, people knew and loved Barry for his intelligence, quick wit and tender heart. His deep Christian faith was shared through his loving actions as a father, husband and friend, and through a ministry of prayer and music at the Waterloo United Methodist Church.

People who knew Barry well knew his desire to "do right and good" in the world. His faith led him to serve others with his time, gifts and talents. A lifelong member of the SF Rotary, he was a Paul Harris award winner and a tireless supporter of fundraising events. He was the President of the SF School Board, served as a village trustee, and was a member of several church leadership committees. Barry was instrumental in the creation of the National Women's Right Museum. After retiring to Florida, Barry was an active member of the local hospice care, giving rides and providing support to those in need. He remained strongly connected and committed to his church families in both Waterloo and Florida. Overall, Barry's intention in life was, and remained to the end, was to be of service to others.

As a father, Barry was a loving role model to his son and three daughters. He was able to teach them the lessons they needed to grow up with a sense of purpose and responsibility. Over the course of his life, he instilled in all of his children and grandchildren a strong work ethic, and the same desire to "do right and good" in the world by passing down his strong sense of right and wrong, humility, faith, and sense of humor. He encouraged each to work to the best of her/his ability and consider the needs of others.

The passing of Barry creates a void in the world that cannot be filled. Although his loss is great, the contributions that he made created a better existence for many. Even though he will no longer be physically present, his legacy will live on through the lives of his children and grandchildren. He will always and forever be remembered for the man and friend that he was, and the remarkable life that he led.

He is survived by his brother Mark Leamer Bradshaw (Barbara) of Dakota City, NE, his son, Eugene B. Bradshaw III (Cheryl McNamara) of Pittsburgh and his children, Kyle, Kaitlin, Ian and Clare, his daughter, Janelle Bradshaw of Seneca Falls and her children, Natalie and Vanessa Walters, daughter Michelle Bradshaw D.C. (Peter Moore) of Ithaca, daughter Elizabeth, aka Beth Anne Bradshaw Ed.D (Kelise Stewart) of Rocky Point, NY and their children, Rylan and Paxton. In addition, he will be lovingly and fondly remembered by the Crego and Cornelson families. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cherished friends, including Pam Gabana of Venice, FL.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Saturday, September 25 at the Waterloo United Methodist Church, 21 E. William St., Waterloo. Masks are required for all attending the service. Donations in memory may be made to either Waterloo United Methodist Church - Haiti Project or to Seneca Falls Rotary Club.
