Edward Smink, 84, of Seneca Falls, died on Thursday, November 18th, 2021 at Geneva General Hospital. A Funeral Service will be held at Calvary Lutheran Church in Waterloo at a later time. Donations in memory may be made to Beverly Animal Shelter, 50 E. River St., Waterloo, NY 13165.
Ed was born in Pittston, PA, the son of the late, John and Mary (Galazin) Smink. He moved to the area and lived most of his life in the greater Seneca Falls area. He worked as the Plant Manager and Milk Inspector for Sealtest Foods in MacDougal until they closed in 1970, and then as a Therapy Aide at Willard Psychiatric State Hospital from where he retired. He served for over 30 years with the Seneca County Sheriff's Department; from 1974-1982 as a part-time Sherriff's Deputy; a part-time Corrections Officer for many years and eventually taking on the responsibility of supervising the commissary from 2000 until his retirement from corrections in 2006. In addition, Ed was a life-member of the Varick Fire Department where he was one of the founding members. In his spare time, Ed was a HAM radio operator, enjoyed fishing, and later in life enjoyed camping with his late wife, Judy. He was the kind of guy who liked to tinker with things and was most definitely a jack-of-all-trades.
Ed is survived by his daughter, Laurel "Laurie" Toney; step-daughters, Kathy and Christine MacDonald; step-grandchildren, Cameron and Corey MacDonald, Morgan Tyre; sisters, Bertha Redmond and Janie Coons, as well many nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. He is predeceased by his wife, Judith (Hooper) Smink; step-brother, John Smink; step-sister, Betty Fitzpatrick; nephews, Tom and Jack Fitzpatrick and niece, Cathy (Fitzpatrick) Smith.
