Seneca Falls

James D. Bero, Jr., passed away on Friday, March 24th, 2023 at Geneva General Hospital, with his family by his side. He was 85. In keeping with James' wishes, a Celebration of Life will be held at the convenience of his family. For those wishing, donations in memory may be made to the Seneca Community Players, P.O. Box 45, Seneca Falls, NY 13148, Seneca Falls Heritage and Tourism Center, PO BOX 388, 89 Fall St, Seneca Falls, NY 13148, or a charity of your choice.

Jim was born the only son of the late James and Susan (DelPapa) Bero, in Ithaca, NY. He graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in 1955 and went on to further his education and received his B.A. in Pre-Law from the University of Richmond. He came to marry the former Marilyn Procino at St. Francis of Assisi Church in Auburn in 1962, and the two remained side-by-side for over 61 years. Jim started working for his father at Bero Construction in Waterloo, and later came to become the Vice President of the company. Over the years, Jim found great joy in giving back to his community. He served as the Commissioner of the Seneca Falls Youth Football league, was on the Board at State Bank, and was a member of the Kiwanis Club of Seneca Falls/Waterloo where he was once awarded their Man of the Year award. Two passions for Jim were golf and acting, and he could frequently be found at either the Seneca Falls Country Club or the Seneca Community Players. He and his wife had a radio show on WSFW called "Healthy Cooking with your Friendly Italians" that he enjoyed and had a lot of fun doing. Jim will be fondly missed by many.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Marilyn; sons, Mark (Carie), Michael (Jana), Matthew (Kristen Abe) Bero; two grandsons, Luca and Max Bero; cousin, Kim (Tony) Belli; a very special family friend, Jeffrey Shen; as well as several cousins and extended family.
