James was born on December 22, 1942 in Suffern, NY. He was born the son of Arthur James Cosner and Philomena De Joie Corsner. He graduated from Suffern High School and attended Rockland Community College before serving in the 50th Army Band at Fort Monroe, Virginia, playing the trumpet. He and his wife Jean relocated to Seneca Falls in 1969, where they stayed and raised their family. Those that knew Jim knew his smile and sense of humor. He loved music, singing, and playing the trumpet. He adored his grandchildren and passed on to them his love of music. Jim also enjoyed golf, tennis, and baking. Many have been blessed with Jim's famous Christmas cookies. Jim's famous quote was "they can take anything from you except your mind" and he was a strong advocate for furthering education.

He is survived by his mother, Philomena Corsner of Suffern; his loving wife, Jean Corsner of Seneca Falls; sons, Troy (Terri) Corsner of North Carolina and Bryce (Deborah) Corsner of Seneca Falls; ten grandchildren, Korvid (Cat), Daril (Corey), Kenny, Derek, Julia, Nicholas, Thomas, Anna, Joshua, and Samuel; one great-grandson, David; his sister, Mary Jane (Richard) Hallahan, and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father, Arthur J. Corsner of Suffern.
