Jean A. (Bowman) Horton
February 26, 1938 ~ September 15, 2023 (age 85) 85 Years Old
Jean A. Horton, 85, of Tyre, NY, passed away on Friday, September 15th, 2023 at Hunting Living Center in Waterloo. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Tyre United Methodist Church, 714 Gravel Rd., Tyre on Sunday October 8th, at 1 PM with refreshments to follow. Interment will take place in East Homer Cemetery in Homer, NY at the convenience of the family. Donations in memory may be made to Tyre United Methodist Church.
Jean was born in Cortland, NY, the daughter of the late Clarence and Louise (Smith) Bowman. Her family moved to the Tyre area when she was a young girl and she was educated locally, graduating from Mynderse Academy, Class of 1957. She was a longtime member of the Tyre United Methodist Church, the American Legion Auxiliary Kirk Casey Post 366 for over 40 years, as well as the Family Motor Coach Association (FMCA). For over 30 years, Jean was a school bus driver for Seneca Falls Central Schools; a career she retired from with great pride.
Jean loved camping, travelling, fishing, bowling, and being outdoors. She particularly enjoyed going to the Pickin' in the Pasture Bluegrass event every year in Lodi as it combined her love for bluegrass music and the camping/RVing that she loved as well. She also loved being with her family; it didn't matter what the occasion was, if she was together with her family, she was happy.
Jean is survived by her sons, David E. Campbell, Steven (Pam) Campbell, Earl Campbell Jr.; stepson, Paul C. Horton III; brother, James (Cindy) Bowman; two grandchildren and six step-grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by the father of her sons, Earl W. Campbell, and second husband, Paul C. Horton Jr.
