John was born in Clyde, NY, the son of the late John Sr. and Tinella (Signorffi) Salerno at the family homestead on December 21st, 1938. He graduated from RIT with a degree in Engineering in 1973, and started working for Goulds Pumps in Seneca Falls in 1974. While working at Goulds he held many positions in the Research and Development department, including design and drafting, and eventually as an Engineer. John retired from Goulds after more than 30 years, and even after retirement, still acted as a consultant for the company until 2020.
John was well known in the area for his bodywork on classic cars, especially Corvettes. He worked on many classic cars from all over the Finger Lakes. He was active with the Prison City Ramblers in Auburn, and enjoyed attending other car shows in the area with his own classic cars.
Above all else, he was selfless when it came to his family and close friends.
