Obituary

Roy L. Blanch, 76, of Jamesville, passed away at St. Joseph's Hospital in Syracuse, on Tuesday, July 4th, 2023, after a brief illness. A private graveside service was held by the family at Maple Grove Cemetery in Waterloo, NY. Donations in memory may be made to the American Heart Association.

Roy was born in Burley, ID, the son of the late James and Georgia (Egan) Blanch. After High School he served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Denmark. He served his country as a Sergeant in the United States Air Force 1970-1974 during the Vietnam Conflict, where he was stationed in Hawaii. He attended Brigham Young University in Utah, where he received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering 1977. He had worked as an Electrical Engineer from 1977-1986 for Burroughs Corporation in San Diego, and New Jersey, where he met and was united in marriage with Garland (Smith) at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Salt Lake Temple on January 23, 1982. From 1986-1989 he worked for Unisys in San Jose, Ca. In the early 2000's Roy and his family relocated to the Syracuse area from California where he took employment with Lockheed Martin before retiring.

A tinkerer by nature, Roy always enjoyed tinkering with computers and as of late had been printing off many different things on his 3D printer. He was a man of many interests, including aviation, where he had obtained his pilot's license; reading, especially romance novels and science fiction; however, his biggest joy was being a dad to his two children. Over the years, Roy had personally built a 2-story addition to the back of the family home, a feat which he was very proud of. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in Manlius.

Roy is survived by his wife, Garland; son, Steven Blanch; daughter, Edith Blanch; brother, Eddie (Nancy) Blanch; sister, Laura (Jim) Pettersson; as well as nieces, nephews, and extended family.
